Installation Instructions for a VW Dock
Tools Required
- 1 ratchet w/ 7/16" 8 point socket or comparable tool
- 1 3/16" hex head wrench (Allen Wrench)
- 1 torpedo level
- 1 4 level
- 1 sledge hammer
- 1 driving cap
- 1 - installation winch
- 1 leveling winch
- 1 pair of waders (may be necessary for the first section, depending on
circumstances)
Note: the driving cap, installation winch, and leveling winch are special tools that
may purchased from VW Docks.
- Layout the pipe by length from shortest - longest and install the anchor plates. The
anchor plates are generally installed with approx. 8" of pipe left below the plate.
- Select the starter-section (the section with U-hooks on one end) and position it near
the spot where you want your dock to start. The hooks will be the shore end.
- Place section in position and install the two shortest pipe into castings on shore end,
one each casting and tighten the set screws at the desired dock height. Install the next
two shortest pipe into the castings on the lake end (female end), and tighten the set
screws.
- Using a 4 level (preferably), pick a corner to start leveling from and level
around the section. Depending on terrain the dock may have to ramp down to the desired
height and then level off.
- Carry the next section out, it will have female brackets (an upright with a slot) on one
end and male brackets on the opposite end. Place the male end of the section into the
female brackets of the previous section.
- Lower into place using our winch system, set and drive the pipe, then level and tighten
the set screws.
- Put stabilizer bars on, generally one pair every other section is sufficient.
- Repeat steps 5 and 6 for the remaining sections.
- Cut pipe to desired length above the dock.
- Install bench, ladder, and boat cushions if applicable.
- Install safety caps
